Pens of Distinction are the only quality pen
manufacturer in the UK who are endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council. This
means all the timber used in the pens is from a guaranteed sustainable, environmentally friendly source. The timber
sources are independently audited on an annual basis to ensure that the strict guidelines are adhered to and only sustainable
timber is used.
All these pens use 10 carat cobalt gold plated fittings,
the refills and writing mechanisms are from a top quality German pen parts manufacturer. The boxes are made from maple
and the ends of them are rosewood which also come from sustainable sources.
The three different timbers available, oak, yew and rhododendron
are all sourced locally, cut and dried by Pens of Distinction and then turned on a lathe to make the pens.
Oak is recognisable due to its popularity and is a
favourite timber for many cabinet makers and along with the, yew both timbers have been used for many centuries in this
country. Rhododendron is different as it is considered a weed in the forest and is cut and burned as it chokes the forest floor and spreads very quickly. The rhododendron used is Rhododendron Ponticum
and can be found up to 14 inches in diameter. It can be a variety of colours ranging from pink to orange, tan, brown,
purple and white. This is the only timber that is cut as a living plant which helps forest growth whilst
supplying timber for pen supplies.
Every pen is unique as no two pieces of timber
are the same due to the colour and figure differences.
